One of the perks of my current gig is that I can work remotely multiple days a week. I love it, but the freedom can easily make a man complacent. That’s why at least every Tuesday and Thursday I force myself to make the mighty trek to Newton via the D-Line. This branch will take you all the way out to the 128-I90 interchange, which as far as I’m concerned is Siberia. It’s a distance from Downtown that in any other direction requires a car and at least an hour commute during rush hour. I therefore view the D-Line is a mixed blessing: I couldn’t get to my job without it, but I also would probably work a lot closer to my house if the option just didn’t exist.
Unbeknownst to me before accepting my desk in Newton, the ride above-ground to Riverside is gorgeous if you don’t mind being trapped in a trolley for roughly an hour. You start with views of high rises under construction in Fenway and end your journey at a golf course.

Here are a few shots I snapped hastily the other morning while en route. These aren’t the highest quality or most interesting perspectives, but they help illustrate why the D-Line is unique among the branches of the T.
