Photo(s) of the day 4-8-11

Today was opening day at Fenway Park, and boy did I pick a bad day to sleep in. Got to JR408 a solid half hour late, starving and under-caffeinated. If I waited about 5 more minutes I would’ve arrived to an empty classroom, because lucky for me, we were sent on independant filming/burrito field trips right when I got there.

So, I snapped some of these stock scenes of spring on the common. The point of the trip was to film, but there were way to many small children and Burberry-moms for this bearded maniac to comfortably blend in. I felt like a predator. So aside from a few hidden camera shots, along with a great clip of me following a hobo drag a terrier by his Rascal wheel-chair at lightning pace (in hindsight, probably because I was following him), I took pretty pictures of trees!

The first pic on the right is of One Beacon Street hiding behind some budding maples. I’ve never liked this building – it’s a perfect example of the Boston school of short stumpy towers that litter downtown.  It’s got an antenna shooting out of it that’s about half the height of the actual structure, which just teases you with how tall and impressive this building could have been. Instead, the city has a giant fat brick shooting into the sky from behind Beacon Hill. One Beacon Street is not without it’s merits, though, as I can say it looks handsome when half hidden and ONLY from this angle. It’s color palette also matches up very nicely with the reddish buds that are finally poking through.

The second picture on the right is of Beacon Street in the background and the Common baseball fields in the fore. I took this leaning against the rails of the spooky cemetary on Boylston Street. This is one of the first days I saw people on the fields this spring, and it finally feels like Boston again – as opposed to the moon, which is what this place felt like in the winter.
